Live & Work

When a Chamber of Commerce site offers a statement like “Catonsville offers the best of all worlds,” readers tend to smile knowingly and say, “Well, of course they would say that!” It is our job to promote the community, after all….

But when the children who grew up in Catonsville come back to raise their families…and when the families stay for decades and generations…it seems to us that the people have spoken.

So pardon us if we brag a bit! As we see it, whether you’re looking for small-town delights near big-city attractions…a friendly community for your family and business…or rich academic and technological opportunities, Catonsville genuinely does offer the best of all worlds.

Just wander down our main street, Frederick Road, and you’ll see what we mean. Passing by the small independent shops and businesses, near tree-lined streets of stunning Victorian-style homes, you could almost be walking through a Norman Rockwell canvas.

And yet, you’re just around the corner from the high-tech campuses of the University of Maryland Baltimore County with its small business incubator, bwtech@umbc and the Community College of Baltimore County with its newly established Geospatial Satellite System.

That’s not even mentioning the attractions of downtown Baltimore, only 15 minutes’ drive to the east, and Washington D.C., less than an hour to the south. And with the MARC railway and Baltimore-Washington International Airport just minutes away, you have a doorway to the nation, and the world.

And all of this is just the beginning of the benefits you’ll find in Catonsville…

Catonsville was even listed in Money Magazine as the 49th Best Place to Live when compared to other dream locations in the U.S.

And here at the Chamber of Commerce we work each day to make Catonsville the community of your dreams, too.

So…what is your wish list for the community of your dreams?

The Great Outdoors

Catonsville offers some of the most extensive hiking and bike trails in the area…not to mention opportunities for camping, canoeing, horseback riding, fishing, and hunting.

Patapsco State Park – 14,000 acres and five developed recreational areas along 32 miles of the Patapsco River. For information about protecting and maintaining the trails in the Patapsco Valley, see the Patapsco Heritage Greenway, Inc. and the Friends of Patapsco Valley State Park, Ltd.

The Catonsville Heritage Trails – roughly 5.6 miles of disused trolley and streetcar lines, now being reclaimed for hiking and biking throughout Catonsville

Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park – 2,000 acres of publicly owned land within the nearby Gwynns Falls stream valley, just inside the Baltimore City line
