Surrounding Catonsville are a number of communities with their own commercial areas including Arbutus, Baltimore Highlands, Halethorpe, Lansdowne, Paradise, Oella, Relay, and Security Square.

Education and Recreation
With the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), the Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville campus, and several private and public schools, the southwest county region offers educational opportunities at every level, from pre-kindergarten through graduate school and adult continuing education. Residents are well educated, with one in three having a college degree, one in ten having a graduate or professional diploma.

The community places a high value on education. A large proportion of Baltimore County’s children, about 80% are enrolled in public school, reflecting the county’s success in providing quality education. The elementary and secondary program that includes Gifted and Talented, careers, and internships, and quality instruction, is designed to prepare all students to compete successfully in the 21^st-century arena.

Banneker Historical Park & Museum is located off Frederick Road at 300 Oella Avenue with museum hours: 10:00am — 4:00pm Tuesday through Saturday. The Catonsville Historical Society operates The Townsend House and Pullen Museum at 1824 Frederick Road. Frederick Road, the Historic National Road Scenic Byway through Catonsville, is part of a multi-state planning effort to obtain an American Byways designation under the Federal Highway Administration’s Scenic Byway Program

Exciting Line-up of Cultural Events
The woods behind Catonsville High School come alive every Saturday and Sunday during the summer months with the Lurman Woodland Theatre Summer Concert Series. Concerts will feature bluegrass, rock & rock, Irish music and dancing, folk, barbershop and much more.
