SHOP CATONSVILLE continues in the front lobby of Catonsville High School!  We will have everything displayed and we are well stocked with several new items (like Tervis Tumblers and Camelback water bottles) as well as the classic old ones!  Spread the word – the community is welcome!

What is SHOP CATONSVILLE?  A place where the Comet Booster Club of Catonsville High School sells their “Catonsville” and “Catonsville Comet” clothing and novelty items!  Items include Under Armour hoodies and tees, jackets, blankets, pajama pants, sweatpants, heats, short sleeve tees, long sleeve tees, hoodies, lanyards, water bottles, scarves, polos, Catonsville towels, new car magnets, decals, bandanas, socks and more!

Local artists will be on hand to lead the workshop and provide inspiration as the beauty of the society's gardens and grounds are recreated in their art work. Feel free to bring your own sketchbook.   Come for a few hours or spend the day.  The event itself is free.  Lunch will be provided for a nominal fee.  In case of rain, this event will be rescheduled in the fall.  The community is invited.

CATONSVILLE, MD—They’ve been used for power generation and meteorological forecasting.  They’ve served as light beacons and radio aerials.  Armies have flown them for observation and transport.

Inventors Benjamin Franklin, the Wright Brothers and Guglielmo Marconi, the father of long-distance radio transmission, all utilized them for experiments.

But since their first known use some 2,800 years ago in China, kites have brought people of all ages and nationalities together.

That tradition of fun comes to Catonsville on Saturday, May 19^th from 10am-noon for the First Annual Catonsville Kite Flying Contest.  The family event is sponsored by the Catonsville Rotary Club and Charlestown, the Erickson Living retirement community on Maiden Choice Lane.

Participants will compete in four categories for Highest-flying, Longest-flight, Best Design & Most Creative, in three divisions: K-2^nd Grade Students, 3^rd-5^th Grade Students & Seniors (55-plus).  Prizes will be awarded.

While it is estimated that there are more than 50 million kites sold in the United States each year, participants are encouraged to put their engineer’s hat on and design their own homemade kite.

The event will take place at Charlestown, located at 719 Maiden Choice Lane.

Pre-registration is required with a deadline of April 23^rd.

Civil Air Patrol is your community based volunteer organization focused on providing critical emergency services and youth leadership development.  Civil Air Patrol was there when Katrina struck the Gulf Coast and your Civil Air Patrol in Maryland will be there when disaster or a community emergency strikes close to home.  CAP is an all-volunteer service and the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force.

Civil Air Patrol, the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, is a benevolent, nonprofit, community based, volunteer organization performing humanitarian services on behalf of the U.S. Air Force. If you're interested in a worthwhile volunteer program for your son, daughter, or yourself Civil Air Patrol may be exactly what you've been looking for! CAP's cadet program has more than 27,000 members, ages 12 to 21, throughout the nation. Parents of cadets credit our program with communicating to their children the importance of personal integrity, accountability, self-discipline and respect for others.

Because CAP includes both cadet and senior members, this can be an outstanding volunteer activity for your whole family. You can work together to serve your local community, learn new skills and share a common commitment to making our nation stronger and more secure. What can your family do in Civil Air Patrol?

As CAP cadets, your children will follow an awards-based, multi-level program that includes leadership and technical training, values clarification, physical fitness and aerospace education. CAP offers national cadet encampments with activities in emergency services, engineering, technology, physical fitness, teambuilding and flight training. You can even visit foreign countries through the International Air Cadet Exchange.
