The Charlestown Field of Honor will be open to the public May 24-27, 2013 with opening ceremonies at 10:00AM on Saturday the 25^th.   Over 500, 3ft.x5ft. full size American flags standing on 8ft. poles will be flown in perfect rows  as a community veterans tribute over the  Memorial Day weekend.  Each flag displayed will be sponsored by area businesses and residents for $$35 per flag.  Net proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and the Charlestown Benevolent Care Fund.  To become a sponosor or purchase a flag, please call Dan Simons @ 410-242-3300.

We have added a new time for this class. So in addition to our Tuesday 6:10-7:30 class we will now offer Thursdays4:00-5:20 weekly.

This class is designed for students who need a slower pace and creative adaptations to help them find their way into the yoga postures comfortably.  A variety of props are used to afford students the ability to work at their own level and to accomodate restrictions and/or limitations. Level appropriate  pranayama is included to facilitate relaxation and stress reduction.

The Catonsville Historical Society is sponsoring the Third Annual National Road Yard Sale on Saturday, June 1st from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.   Businesses, residences, and churches along Frederick Road that day will be a part of this event again.  Set up at Salem Lutheran Church for $$15 a table - proceeds go directly to Catonsville Emergency Food Ministries Network or host your own yard sale.  Starting point is the Baltimore City/Baltimore County line near the National Cemetery and heads west on Frederick Road out to the Baltimore/Howard County line.  Join the fun; shop for wonderful treasures; meet new people.  Contact B.      The Taste of Catonsville has been a tradition in the Catonsville community for 16 years. From its humble beginnings under a tent in ABC Equipment Rental parking lot on Route 40 to its current home at Rolling Road Golf Club, the Taste has grown and evolved over the years into one of Catonsville’s best known and enjoyed events. But with every event, there reaches a time when you need to take a fresh look and see what improvements can be made to take that event to the next level.

     A Taste of Catonsville that goes beyond your taste buds is the new focus of our event for 2013. Anchored by Catonsville’s finest restaurants offering samples of their signature dishes, this year’s Taste will highlight EVERYTHING that makes Catonsville THE PLACE to live, work, shop and play. The Taste is expanding to two floors at the Rolling Road Golf Club and will include outdoor venues. The event is moving to the first Monday in June and extending its hours from 6pm to 9pm.With Catonsville resident celebrity Mindy Basara, co-anchor of the WBAL-TV morning news, as our MC, our new Taste will also offer a “taste” of our Farmers Market, a “taste” of our arts festival, a “taste” of our Flower Fest & Garden Party and a “taste” of the Catonsville July 4th Celebration. The new Taste will now include a wine tasting venue hosted by The Breadery of Catonsville and a beer tasting venue hosted by Oakdale Fine Wine & Spirits, along with cooking demonstrations from our local restaurant chefs and bakers. As you sample the wonderful variety of food, drinks and products you will enjoy music from local musicians, highlighting Catonsville’s Music City Maryland designation.

     The chamber is thrilled to bring “A Taste of Catonsville Beyond Your Taste Buds” to our community on Monday, June 3 and encourage area residents to join us for this entertaining event. Despite the addition of these delightful new attractions, the ticket price has remained the same at $$35. Take this opportunity to start something new that offers the gift of greater well-being. For those students who have never done yoga this is the perfect place to start. This class provides an introduction to the fundamentals of proper alignment, support and breath awareness in the basic Yoga postures (asanas). The class emphasizes the standing postures and the sun salutation series is introduced as the session progresses.

Step back into the past at the fourth annual Colonial Market Fair at the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum. Experience the sights and sounds of eighteenth century life as you visit with re-enactors, sutlers, tradesmen, craftsmen, and musicians.  Stop by Banneker’s cabin and learn the story of this amazing African American writer, astronomer, mathematician, and surveyor of our nation’s capital. For the children, there is a special tent with colonial crafts and games.   Many of the Park and Museum volunteers will be wearing period clothing, and those attending are invited to dress up as well.  All guests are welcome to have a picnic brunch on the grounds, but have a rain plan since there are no inside eating facilities.   This family event is co-sponsored The Friends of Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum and the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks in conjunction with the site’s 15th anniversary.
