Six Mile Coffee Open Mic
On the first Thursday of April a new open mic shall come growling from its lair. It shall begin above ground, but within a couple of weeks it shall nestle closer to the earth, burrow suddenly and then become a subterranean – dare I say – UNDERGROUND open mic. There shall be coffee and there shall be cake. There shall be sandwiches, wraps and pizzas. And for the daring there shall be a microphone. Well, to be more specific, 3 microphones and a couple of ¼” jacks.
Hosted by rob Hinkal of the band ilyAIMY and previously of the Java Mammas Open Freakin’ Mic – the Six Mile Coffee Underground (currently still above ground*) Open Mic will kick off on Thursday night, April 7th and will run every Thursday thereafter. Sign up begins at 6pm, though for the first month, rob will be taking a limited number of advance signups up to a week ahead of time. Facebook messages, texts, phone calls… it’s all fair game – but no signup is confirmed unless you’ve gotten a message back! Music, poetry, performances of any old sort will run from 7-10pm. Pretty much anything goes as long as you keep it relatively family-friendly, don’t threaten yourself or others and can fit it in the space and fit it into your 10 minute slot.
Comedians? Please be funny.
Performances will be broadcast Live and archived at www.ustream.tv/channel/ilyaimy. Multitrack recordings of the night will also be made.
*What does this mean? Above ground? Underground? Qua? Well, currently the open mic will be run in the familiar Six Mile Coffeehouse space. But even as we speak, design students from CCBC are reimagining the basement space into a large, single basement room that will be set aside as a performance space. It will be one of the largest coffeehouse music-spaces in the area, and it will be alllllll ours starting in May!
